You’re part of their journey, too

As a caregiver, you play a vital role in your loved one’s journey after limb loss.

Supporting your loved one’s journey

From helping navigate treatment decisions to offering day-to-day support, your presence can make a meaningful difference in their recovery and confidence moving forward.

Learning about available options — including advanced prosthetic solutions like the OPRA™ Implant System — can help you feel more prepared to support them through each stage of the process. We’re here to provide information, resources, and guidance to help both of you navigate this journey together.

The journey

Whether your loved one is exploring the OPRA™ Implant System or has already had surgery, this journey often comes with new experiences and learning along the way.

Because OPRA™ works differently than socket prosthetics, the transition can feel like a big change. Having a supportive caregiver by their side can make all the difference — helping with recovery, encouraging rehabilitation, and supporting confidence as they regain mobility.

What caregivers need to know

What is OPRA™?

The OPRA™ Implant System is a bone-anchored prosthetic solution that connects a prosthetic limb directly to the bone using a titanium implant.

This direct connection can provide improved stability, comfort, and control for many patients who have difficulty using a socket prosthesis.

What is the experience?

The procedure is performed by specialized surgeons and typically involves staged surgeries followed by a period of rehabilitation. Recovery includes time for the bone to integrate with the implant and for the patient to gradually begin loading the prosthesis.

Throughout this process, patients work closely with their surgical team, prosthetist, and rehabilitation specialists to safely progress toward using their prosthetic limb.

How you can help

Caregivers play an important role throughout the OPRA™ journey. Your support can help your loved one stay motivated, confident, and on track during recovery and rehabilitation.

Encourage Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation is a key part of the OPRA™  process. Encouraging your loved one to attend appointments, follow their rehabilitation plan, and stay consistent with exercises can help them safely progress toward using their prosthesis.

Help with Daily Care
During recovery and beyond, your loved one may need support with daily routines such as hygiene around the skin penetration site, transportation to appointments, or managing new routines.

Be a Source of Emotional Support
Adjusting to a new prosthetic solution can bring both excitement and challenges. Listening, encouraging, and celebrating milestones together can make a meaningful difference along the way.
